I’m a big movie buff, but I usually have the most fun during horror films, and thrillers. The sad thing is the whole genre is full of cheesy plots, and horrible acting. The way I approach it is, if it has some decent acting I’m down. I understand that not every horror movie can do what The Conjuring did. An example of an effective horror film is Hereditary (I was happy to see Gabriel Byrne is in it). Milly Shapiro was genuinely terrifying in this film.Toni Collette was also amazing. I felt unnerved the whole time.

Side note: You got to have patience, and truly be into horror to appreciate films like this. I love subtlety in movies so I don’t mind a little slow time every now and then. I wouldn’t recommend it to casual viewers though.

Hereditary was written, and directed by Ari Aster who has a similar style to Robert Eggers who wrote, and directed The Witch (Loved it). Both films were produced by A24. I have to mention A Quiet Place too. Directed/Starring John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. A perfect movie to showcase how to build tension in a horror film. A cool fact is both the stars are a real life couple, which makes the family aspect more powerful. I can picture a wider audience enjoying this one.

I’m hoping for the best for the following upcoming films. My list of the most anticipated horror films (In no particular order):

1. The New Mutants

When I saw that Anya Taylor-Joy (She was amazing in The Witch, & Split) will be included in the cast I automatically checked in. I know it’s comic book related, but it’s going to take the horror movie approach.

(Scheduled for February 22, 2019).

2. The Nun

I trust Taissa Farmiga (Vera Farmiga‘s sister) is going to give a great performance whether this one hits, or not. After watching Annabelle: Creation I saw the potential in the extended universe around The Conjuring. I didn’t mind Annabelle, but I prefer Annabelle: Creation. Hopefully it’s entertaining at least.

(Scheduled for September 7, 2018)

3. Halloween

The John Carpenter classic will be directed by David Gordon Green who directed Joe (2013) Starring our favorite rage monster Nicolas Cage . A suprisingly good movie.

I won’t apologize for that ADHD moment.

I read it’s going to ignore all the storylines from past Halloween films, except for the first one (my favorite). Jamie Lee Curtis looks super G’d up, it makes my heart smile.

(Scheduled for October 19, 2018)

4. Venom

Comic book film again leaning towards a horror/thriller style. I was interested after hearing it’s trying the Logan path (my all time favorite comic book movie) with an R rating (Update for August 12th: The movie might lean towards a PG-13 rating). I’m skeptical now, but I hope they give Venoms dark personality justice. I enjoyed Tom Hardy‘s performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises so this could be a win. If not then I hope it’s watchable so I can add it to my guilty pleasure movies.

(Scheduled for October 5, 2018)

5. Suspiria

This is a remake, or a re-imagining of Suspiria (1977) produced by Amazon Studios. Jessica Harper the orginal star will also appear in this film. Starring a few of my favorite actresses Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, ChloĆ« Grace Moretz, and directed by Luca Guadagnino. It look’s like the kind of film that’s going to split viewers like Mother! ( Jennifer Lawrence) did (I liked that movie too). This thing is like a nightmarish acid trip, luckily for the creators I’m into that sort of shit ha..pray for me.

(Scheduled for November 2, 2018)

(share & show love if I deserve it! Peace)
